JOHANNESBURG - The court appearance of the man accused of murdering 14-year-old Likhona Fose took a surprising turn after a key witness gave a different account of his whereabouts when the crime was committed.

Mduduzi Mnisi, who was the last person seen with Fose before she went missing, has been charged with premeditated murder. He is applying for bail in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court.

On day three of the bail hearings, Mnisi's girlfriend, Pinky Gantso, took the stand in his defence.

During proceedings, Gantso was questioned about the whereabouts of Mnisi on the Saturday and Sunday when Fose disappeared and was found dead.

Gantso confirmed that Mnisi went to another city on Saturday morning and came back to her house later that evening.

She also confirmed that Mnisi slept over that Saturday night and was still at her home on Sunday morning when her body was found.

But the court found that Mnisi's testimony about witnesses who informed them about the incident was not the same as his girlfriend.

Proceedings continued on Wednesday.
