This initiative aims to equip residents with the knowledge and tools to prevent disasters stemming from adverse weather conditions or fires, which often ignite as they try to keep warm during winter.
"Mayor [Dada] Morero says 'one of our priorities as the city is to take care of the poor and vulnerable through the Expanded Social Programme and lifesaving, disaster preventative campaigns especially during Winter. So, the strategy is to align the activities of the Ministerial Outreach Programme on the day with the CoJ Winter Risk Awareness Campaign, which includes community workshops, door-to-door awareness drives, school exhibitions and emergency evacuation training'," said Johannesburg communications officer Virgil James.
