JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg residents are urged to practice caution while using heating devices during a cold snap forecast for the next few days.
Since the winter period began, more than 10 people have died from fire incidents across the metro, caused mainly by heating devices.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has warned that as the province experiences a drop in temperatures, communities need to be mindful while handling fires and devices to keep warm.
Spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said teams will remain on standby.
"Please handle electrical appliances, open flames, and flammable materials responsibly. Furthermore, EMS strongly advises against leaving children locked alone at home, as this poses a severe safety risk during emergencies."
