MTHATHA - While a cold front warning has been issued for parts of the Eastern Cape, search operations continue in Mthatha for scores of missing people from the recent deadly floods.

Rescuers from the police, aid organisation Gift of the Givers and Eastern Cape Disaster Management have spent hours scouring another five-kilometre stretch of the Mthatha River but found nothing.

More rain and snow have been forecast for the province; however, the teams say they will not be deterred.

Search teams, including police, disaster officials and Gift of the Givers volunteers, say they’re not giving up.

Gift of the Givers rescue team's, Siseko Mcakuvana, explained: "We want to go back where we found that young boy going backwards under those trees and look around if we can’t find those two that are missing: the eight-year-old and the 12-year-old.“

Officials say they’re still hoping to bring closure to families waiting for news.

The cold front is bringing more rain and even snow to higher ground, adding a fresh urgency to rescue efforts.
