KZN govt calls on Edu Dept to plan and restore schools affected by severe weather

DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has called on the Education Department to develop a plan to fix schools affected by severe weather in KZN.
Two hundred and eight schools were affected by severe weather conditions this week.
This includes schools that were damaged by previous weather-related disasters.

Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli conducted oversight at affected schools in the eThekwini district.
“I understand that the department is facing the problem of government, of financial challenges or limitations; however, there are things that are a priority.”
The premier adds that the department must also ensure that existing infrastructural issues at schools are attended to.
“You just imagine if this wind arrived during the day while there were kids within the premises, during whatever time. We might have to say something quite different about the safety of the children.”
