JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal’s Department of Human Settlements has provided temporary shelter for families affected by floods and mudslides owing to torrential rainfall.

Several homes in Umlazi township were washed away, and many people were rushed to hospitals and clinics following the destruction of their homes.
The department says hotel accommodation has been provided for the displaced residents, including five women and a child who survived being buried alive in a mudslide.
Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya explains: “The MEC has also indicated that in his interaction with the community of Ward 85 last night, it was agreed that there is going to be an ongoing interaction with all affected communities, as well as decisive intervention involving all spheres of government. There are seven community members who are still going to be accommodated.
Just last month, the province saw destructive flooding that resulted in a woman’s body being found in Pinetown after her vehicle was washed away.
