JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it was approached by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana for an out-of-court settlement regarding its value-added tax (VAT) hike interdict.
Earlier this week, the High Court in the Western Cape heard oral arguments on the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s application to stop the VAT increase.
The 0.5 percentage point VAT hike was expected to come into effect on 1 May.
But National Treasury released a statement overnight about Godongwana’s decision to reverse the tax increase.
DA Federal Council chairperson, Helen Zille, said: "The DA is awaiting a formal written offer from the minister’s lawyers before we respond to the request, and we will update the public in due course of any developments."
