CAPE TOWN - Some social grant recipients in Eerste River in Cape Town were disappointed that they were unable to switch to the new Postbank black card.
This after the entity’s card migration system was down for a few hours on Thursday afternoon.
March 20 was the deadline for social grant beneficiaries to swap their SASSA gold cards for the new Postbank black cards.
Some social grant recipients who had been queuing since the early hours of the morning in Eerste River decided to leave when Postbank's system crashed between 12pm and 3pm.
Mamello Giqi was one of them: "I'm giving up, the system is down, it's been two hours. It's chaos, people are fighting, there's no structure."
It's unclear whether officials will extend operating hours to serve those who waited.
