CAPE TOWN - Taxpayers said they were relieved that the Budget Speech was called off and would be reconsidered.
The national budget was postponed on Wednesday over an impasse related to government's proposed VAT hike of 2 percentage points.
A revised budget will be delivered in March
These taxpayers weighed in on the drama:
"I’m very worried about the VAT that there's rumours about the VAT increasing by 2%. It will cripple all of South Africa," said one person.
"I am very happy that the DA [Democratic Alliance] or the coalition government was able to contest the increase of the VAT rate from 15 to 17%. I don't think it was thoroughly thought through - the implications it's going to have on the population in general," another said.
