JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya joined law enforcement agents in a night-time operation, which saw the closure of a non-compliant tavern.
She joined law enforcement agents in a night operation called Reclaim Our City, seeking to curb criminal activities in the CBD.
The tavern in Sunnyside was found with the incorrect papers to operate to sell liquor.
The city was a buzz with partygoers in the many clubs and taverns.
City officials went inside bottle stores, salons, and food outlets to check for compliance.
"Some stores were said to have some minor violations but the Hot Slots tavern had too many of them and had to be closed. Moya said that it did not have any papers for building, health, fire compliant and was not compliant in any way," the mayor said.
The owner of the establishment has since been arrested.
