JOHANNESBURG - The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) in the Western Cape says school violence reflects what is happening in our communities.

This follows the murder of 54-year-old Ekuthuleni Primary School principal in Kraaifontein on Thursday.

Jeffrey Sigudla was shot and killed while sitting in his car outside the school premises.

Minutes later, police responded to another shooting incident outside the Fanie Theron Primary School also in the Kraaifontein area.

SADTU has condemned Sigudla's killing and called for the protection of educators.

SADTU provincial secretary, Sibongile Kwazi said schools are supposed to be safe havens, not crime scenes.

"We have always had the call for security guards at schools. But in my experience, most of these incidents are targeted at certain individuals."

Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man was shot and killed outside Fanie Theron Primary School in Windsor Park at Kraaifontein moments after the Bloekombos incident.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Frederick Van Wyk said the motive for the second murder on the day is also under investigation.

"The 41-year-old driver of a white Hyundai vehicle left an institute of learning when an unidentified suspect approached the vehicle and fired several gunshots at the vehicle."

Police have urged anyone with information about the two murder incidents to come forward.
