CAPE TOWN - A 22-year-old man was arrested in Hout Bay for abalone poaching.
Metro police made the arrest and found 23 bags of abalone.
The city of Cape Town safety and security made mention of their usage of their Eye in the Sky technology which aided in the monitoring of the coast.
Community members of the Hout Bay area threw stones at vehicles as police officers were leaving the area.
MMC for safety and security, JP Smith, said that technology aided in the prevention of crime.
"The abalone bust in Hout Bay is about the latest example of how we're using technology to extend our reach and track criminal activity that could otherwise have gone undetected. The Eye in the Sky's capabilities allow authorities to track suspicious behaviour, identify heat signatures and gather critical evidence in a wide range of scenarios."
