MAPUTO - Tensions are brewing outside Independence Square in Maputo as Mozambican police are facing off with a small group of protestors.
Rocks have been thrown at riot police who have been called in to quell tensions.
Mozambican riot police managed to push back a handful of protesters who were chanting the name of opposition leader Venancio Mondlane.
This is happening just some metres away from where international dignitaries, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, are gathered for the inauguration of ruling Frelimo party leader Daniel Chapo.

Earlier, police fired a warning shot to disperse the protesters who could be seen taunting authorities.
Everything in the country's capital of Maputo has been brought to a standstill as businesses remain closed.
Locals remain concerned that further civil unrest may erupt in the coming days.
