CAPE TOWN - Cape Town's safety and security directorate said it had early knowledge of potential taxi violence in Nyanga.

A shooting occurred in Nyanga on Tuesday wherein one person was fatally wounded and several others injured.

The person that was shot, succumbed to their injuries and has died. The shooting is allegedly taxi-related; the South African Police Service was at the scene.

Safety and Security MMC JP Smith: "You would've seen that the city's early warning leaked into the public domain where we warned our staff about this possibility, so the city’s own crime intelligence was accurate in this regard and so we issued an alert to staff around this taxi industry threat."
