JOHANNESBURG - Inclement weather conditions have this weekend led to flight disruptions at the George airport in the Western Cape, and travelers are urged to check their local airlines for updates before travelling.
The Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) issued an update late on Sunday, in which they explained that heavy rain, low clouds, and strong winds led to flights into and out of George airport being diverted or cancelled.
They said it had become challenging for pilots to land at the airport, as the instrument landing system on one runway was also affected by maintenance.
ATNS spokesperson Mphilo Dlamini explained the consequences of the equipment being unavailable.
"In the meantime, the impact of these conditions resulted in the implementation of flight diversions that affected Teo airlines, which is FlySafair and Airlink. ATNS regrets the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen flight disruptions."
