Former police officer Rachel Kutumela and her co-accused are expected back in the Polokwane Magistrates Court in connection with an insurance murder syndicate.
Kutumela and her siblings from the Shokane family are implicated in the killing of nine people for more than R10 million payouts in insurance between 2000 and 2024.

Kutumela faces 32 charges, including nine counts of murder, 12 counts of fraud, money laundering and defeating the ends of justice.
She was nabbed by police in 2024, with police later also arresting her 10 co-accused, including her sister, brother and daughter.
“The group allegedly took out life and funeral insurance policies on their victims, who were often vulnerable individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Dzhangi.
