JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane says it was pushed out of government in the capital city before it could complete its project to bring clean, drinking tap water to Hammanskraal.
After 20 years of undrinkable water, the Tshwane Municipality on Wednesday declared the water in some parts of Hammanskraal safe to drink.
This is largely due to the successful installation of the Magalies Klipdrift water treatment plant.

Following the 2023 cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, which killed over 40 people, the Tshwane Municipality and the national department of water devised a plan to bring clean drinking water back to the area.
Former Tshwane mayor, Cilliers Brink, said that Wednesday was a culmination of that plan.
"I am proud of the part done by my own coalition government, especially former member of the mayoral committee, Themba Fosi, in driving the project to delivery. A lot of work still has to be done and things can still be bungled but my heart warms to think that Hammanskraal residents finally have proof that government can in fact get good things done."
Tshwane mayor and ActionSA councillor, Nasiphi Moya, said that public representatives should not squabble over taking credit for government work.
"We work to honour the objectives of the Constitution, which says we have an obligation as local government to provide basic services to the people. Now the moment people start talking about credit, that’s a very wrong attitude."
The Tshwane Municipality said that more areas in Hammanskraal would receive clean water once other phases of the Klipdrift water package project were complete.
