Ramaphosa: GNU criticism and support part of a healthy democracy

JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) president, Cyril Ramaphosa, said that criticisms and support of the Government of National Unity (GNU) were part of the country’s hard-fought democracy.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the South African Communist Party (SACP)'s annual Joe Slovo commemoration event at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto.
The SACP is against the GNU and has accused the ANC of losing its way by joining hands with the Democratic Alliance.

Ramaphosa said criticism of any government was part of a healthy, robust democracy.
"And today, at this time, it is a democracy that allows me to stand here as well and hear voices that are speaking in favour of what we’re seeking to do in government but also to hear voices against the GNU. To also hear voices of those who say we may well have made a mistake. Yes, this is the democracy that comrade Joe Slovo devoted his life [to]," said Ramaphosa.
