DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) said that they would give special focus to deadly factional fights in Nongoma, north of the province.
In recent months, communities, including KwaMusi and Onyango villages, have witnessed gruesome scenes of deadly shootings.
This has also affected the academic progress of pupils, some of whom were unable to write exams.
While police are yet to determine the actual cause of the factional fights in Nongoma, they said they were not taking the matter lightly.
Around 10 people have been killed in the area since July this year.

KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi: "What we know that seems to be the biggest issue that communities are having, especially in the rural areas, is faction fights, family feuds."
In September, five suspects were arrested for several murders. They were found in possession of numerous firearms.
Mkhwanazi added that this appeared to be a growing trend in other rural areas as well.
