Julius Malema has cemented his leadership of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for another five years.
The unanimous support of 2443 delegates at the EFF's elective and policy conference solidifies his dominance within the party.
In his closing address, Malema said that the EFF is patiently awaiting the Democratic Alliance's (DA) departure from the Government of National Unity (GNU), after which the party hopes to join the government.

As for the possibility of the ANC parting ways with the DA and opening its doors to the EFF, political analyst Swana suggests that President Ramaphosa is primarily a survivalist, not a 'DA loyalist', and his main concern is his political survival.
"Cyril Ramaphosa always wanted to keep certain doors open."
