JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has reached a deal with ActionSA to elect Dr Nasiphi Moya as the new mayor.
Moya is an ActionSA councillor and the current acting mayor of the metro.
The deal comes as the Tshwane council prepares to meet on Wednesday morning to elect its fourth mayor in three years.
ActionSA president Herman Mashaba met with the ANC's negotiators on Tuesday night at a hotel in Sandton.
The ANC presented Mashaba with a co-governing plan which also includes a few other parties in the Tshwane council.
Eyewitness News understands that there were some councillors within the ANC who wanted the next mayor to come from the party.
However, it seems that the party's national leaders decided on a different course.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has told Eyewitness News it did not reach a deal with the ANC for Cilliers Brink to be re-elected as mayor.
The ANC and ActionSA are due to hold a joint media briefing just before the council meeting starts where they will officially present Moya as their mayoral candidate.
