JOHANNESBURG - More than a year after the government and big business teamed up to address the country’s economic challenges, the second phase of the initiative is all systems go.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to launch phase 2 of the partnership in Sandton on Tuesday.
Energy, logistics and the fight against crime and corruption are expected to again take centre stage in another bid to unlock economic growth and job creation.
In the first phase of the partnership, over 130 CEOs pledged support – with more than R260 million invested by businesses.
Over 350 experts were also mobilised across the three focal areas.
Almost half a year since load shedding hit, the public and private sectors previously announced plans to switch gears and focus on other constraints impacting the economy.
But there is consensus that more still needs to be done to address rising electricity costs, complex market reform, the delayed grid expansion and stalling investment in new generation.
Bottlenecks in the logistics sector and security threats have been put on the table as the big-ticket issues needing urgent attention.
Business leaders believe continued momentum could mean the country is able to achieve 3%-5% GDP growth by 2030.
