Defence minister Angie Motshekga appointed as acting president
This appointment was made in light of the President's working visit to Zimbabwe, where he is attending the 44th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community's heads of state and government.
JOHANNESBURG - Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Defense and Veterans of Military Service, was appointed as the acting President by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday.
This appointment was made in light of the president's working visit to Zimbabwe, where he is attending the 44th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community's heads of state and government.
Raymond Zondo, the outgoing chief justice, swore in Motshekga as president for the day.

Since joining the Southern African Development Community in August 1994, South Africa has been a member and active participant in the organization for 30 years, coinciding with the country's 30th anniversary of democracy and freedom.
In addition to the status of member state contributions, the President will engage in discussions on the Summit's agenda items, which also include the region's health status, the implementation of the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap, and candidatures to continental and international organizations.

Additionally, the President will sign two SADC legal documents: the Agreement Amending the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development and the SADC Declaration on Accelerating Action to End AIDS as a Public Health Threat in the Region by 2030.
