CAPE TOWN - The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is investigating an attack on a baboon troop in Kommetjie allegedly by community members.

"Residents were wielding sticks and using pepper spray on the baboons. The situation escalated when animal activists attempting to protect the baboons clashed with the residents," Abraham said.

Abraham said one of the baboons was severely impacted by pepper spray.

"One baboon was unable to see and disoriented as a result of the pepper spray. And was then further injured by electrocution on an electric fence while he was trying to escape. Our inspectors rushed the baboon, known as Jack, to our wildlife department. Despite our best efforts, his prognosis remains uncertain," she said.

Abraham is appealing to anyone with information to come forward and assist in their investigation into the incident.
