PIETERMARITZBURG - KwaZulu-Natal Finance MEC Francois Rodgers said that marketing the province's history could have a great impact on the province's growth.
Rodgers was reacting to King Misuzulu kaZwelithini's speech at the opening of the KZN legislature on Tuesday.
The Zulu monarch said he wanted tourism to continue playing a role in KZN's economic growth.
Rodgers said that tourism was not well promoted in the province.
He cited the province’s unique history and culture, saying it could be used to generate more revenue for its economy.
"I think that we are unique in the province - we have Zulu history and culture that goes way back, not just in the current royal household. I think it is something that we need to explore as a tourist destination."
He said that he would lobby the provincial government in this regard.
"That is something that I will be driving in the cabinet."
Rodgers believes the Zulu monarch also has a role to play in this regard.
