JOHANNESBURG - The United Africans Transformation (UAT) says it is not part of the Government of National Unity (GNU) despite President Cyril Ramaphosa saying it was.
During his cabinet announcement, Ramaphosa said the GNU had grown to 11 parties with the UAT being the latest to join.
The party said it was "surprised and disappointed' by the announcement.
UAT president Lehlonolo Mahlatsi said the party had been in discussions with the African National Congress (ANC)'s negotiators but no agreement had been reached yet.
"The UAT has decided to distance itself from the GNU. We believe it’s crucial to uphold principles of honesty, accountability and transparency which is a cornerstone of a functional and trustworthy government. Our decision to step back from the GNU is not to be taken lightly. It reflects our commitment to our pan-African values and the trust placed in us by our supporters."
