JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA in Limpopo has written to the police asking for an urgent probe into the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)'s Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu over allegations they benefited from the now-collapsed VBS Bank.

This comes on the back of a leaked affidavit by the convicted former chairperson of the mutual bank, Tshifhiwa Matodzi, who detailed how he offered the pair kickbacks in a bid to stop them from speaking negatively about the bank.

Matodzi was sentenced to 495 years and is expected to serve 15 years behind bars, after pleading guilty to 33 charges of theft, fraud, money laundering and racketeering.

The disgraced former VBS chairperson claims to have paid the EFF R5 million and R1 million monthly donations in a bid to keep negative press at bay.

ActionSA provincial chairperson, Victor Mothemela, said that specialised police must probe the two politicians urgently.

"It is clear that the hallow assertion made by the EFF’s president, Malema, and EFF deputy president, Shivambu, claiming they were not involved in the theft of municipal and pensioner funds stored at VBS are effectively refuted by Matodzi's sworn confession."
