KZN family displaced by recent uMlalazi veld fire will soon have temporary home

DURBAN - Having spent a week without a home and mourning the death of their loved one, a KwaZulu-Natal family affected by the veld fire will soon have a temporary home.

The inferno also claimed the life of a family member and badly injured another one.
Jingeni Gazu recalled the tragedy: “At the time, I watched the other three houses also catching fire. The fire was uncontrollable.”
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has assigned a team to start building a shelter for the family.
“We delegated our team on Monday that must come on the ground. We have resolved as from 2022 that whenever there are emergencies, we must establish the temporary residential units.”
When Eyewitness News visited the family on Thursday, the teams had begun building.
The department said close to 200 other families will also have temporary homes built for them.
