Police said Xulu fraudulently took out three life cover policies worth R1 million each while impersonating Nxumalo and declared herself as the sole beneficiary.
Equipped with the knowledge that if Nxumalo were to die of unnatural causes, she would pocket a sum of R6 million.
With their plans foiled and now stuck behind bars, the funds have since been frozen.
The pair returns to the same court for a bail hearing.
