JOHANNESBURG - Parties in support of the Government of National Unity (GNU) say they won’t necessarily oppose a motion to impeach President Cyril Ramaphosa over Phala Phala.
The African National Congress (ANC) has entered into agreements with parties in the GNU including the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party, Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) and Patriotic Alliance.
Meanwhile, the PAC, which also joined the GNU this week, said it won’t oppose any investigation into corruption allegations.
The DA may have entered an agreement with the ANC not to support the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)'s motion to re-establish impeachment proceedings against Ramaphosa.
PAC secretary general Apa Pooe said, "We remain vehemently opposed to anything that involves corruption and as the PAC, that’s the principle stand we continue to advocate and advance."
The EFF is expected to support the motion as the sponsor with the support of the United Democratic Movement and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
However, it could also receive support from parties that support the GNU like the Freedom Front Plus, which also wants Parliament to revisit the Phala Phala impeachment matter.
