IFP celebrates multiple by-elections victories in KZN

20 June 2024 | 11:40The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has confirmed the by-election results, with the IFP leading from the front as it won more wards compared to other parties.
DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Kwazulu-Natal has won seven wards in by-elections held in parts of the province on Wednesday.
About 12 by-elections took place at various municipalities in the province, and while the party retained two of its previous wards, it claimed four new ones from the African National Congress (ANC).
The party is celebrating this as a victory.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has confirmed the by-election results, with the IFP leading from the front as it won more wards compared to other parties.
The party retained one seat each in the Nongoma and Pongola local municipalities and three new ones from Umzumbe, one in Umvoti and another in the Mthonjaneni Local Municipality.
