KwaZulu-Natal is one of three provinces with no outright winner from the recent elections.
As it stands, the potential coalition of the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA), and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has a combined seat total of 40.
On the other hand, an uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) partnership only has 39.
The MK Party’s head of elections, Muzi Ntshingila, said they had reached an agreement with the EFF and the NFP for KwaZulu-Natal.
However, NFP leader, Ivan Barnes, said that while he'd met with MK Party leader, Jacob Zuma, on Wednesday, the party had not made a decision yet.
"We agreed that tonight we are going to meet with the MK and listen to their proposal, then we will take a decision as the NFP NEC via Zoom later on tonight as to which organisation we'll form governent with."
The KwaZulu-Natal legislature is set to have its first sitting on Friday, where a premier and Speaker of the House will be elected.
