JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said it would continue engaging political parties with hopes to form a coalition government other than a government of national unity (GNU).

Earlier this week, the African National Congress (ANC) invited every party represented in Parliament to join its executive after failing to retain its parliamentary majority.

The red berets have rejected the ANC’s proposal, insisting the party can’t co-govern with organisations like the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front (FF) Plus.

Speaking at a media briefing in Sandton on Friday, EFF deputy leader, Floyd Shivambu, said the party will consider other options.

"Whatever government is going to be constituted must be a common agenda to improve the lives of our people because our people are still on the margins of the economy.

"It must be an agenda to provide free education. That is what the agenda should be all about. It must not just be about position sharing."
