Technicians are currently on site assessing and attending sub-station faults.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance has called on the provincial government to declare a state of emergency in the province.
"A state of disaster must be declared, and we must release resources to assist those people that have been displaced and those that are at risk. People have died and many more have been injured. We need to take decisive action," said spokesperson Andrew Whitfield.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has also added his voice pleading with citizens to help people with limited resources in their communities.
