CAPE TOWN - A former police officer who gave one of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack's co-accused access to a cellphone application, which was used to track his enemies, was cross-examined in court on Monday.
Modack and his 14 co-accused face 124 charges related to various crimes, including the murder of top cop, Charl Kinnear, and the attempted murder of criminal defence attorney, William Booth.
One of Modack's co-accused, Zane Kilian, allegedly tracked Kinnear, Booth and others, using the cellphone application.
Ex-cop Bradley Goldblatt testified that he sold Kilian cellphone technology which was used to locate the whereabouts of Kinnear before he was murdered in September 2020.
Goldblatt said that Kilian met him in Johannesburg under the pretense of doing motor vehicle repossession work on behalf of Standard Bank.
He told the court he believed it was legal to give Kilian access to the tracking platform but he later came to learn that tracking people was illegal in South Africa.
Goldblatt said that he reported Kilian to the SAPS after he saw Kilian was "pinging" Kinnear and Booth excessively – he said that he was also aware there was an attempt on Booth's life at the time.
The trial continues.
