JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) chairperson in Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed the party's former deputy president David Mabuza will join its election campaign this weekend.
The governing ANC is looking at its veterans and senior leaders to garner support ahead of what's been described as the most contested polls.
Speaking on the sidelines of former president Thabo Mbeki's campaign in Soshanguve on Friday, Lesufi says it all systems go.

Mabuza has shifted from the spotlight since he refused to run for a second term in December 2022.
But Lesufi says Mabuza is heavily involved in the party's election campaign and will soon be seen on the ground.
"He [Mabuza] is joining the campaign. He has already brought almost 18 trucks into our province, they're already here, coming from Mpumalanga. They've already dispatched all the necessary material that we need for this. We will welcome him over the weekend."
Meanwhile, Mbeki was in high spirits while campaigning in Soshanguve.
"It's an important statement. People think I'm old but actually, I'm in the youth league. That's why I'm wearing a youth league shirt and I'm very young."
Mbeki visited the homes of struggle stalwarts Tlou Cholo, Angie Milwane and Elizabeth Matsimela during his campaign on Friday.
