SANTACO provincial chairperson Mandla Hermanus said that no decision has yet been taken on a fare increase.

The association will first assess the impact of the fuel hikes on operations before making a call.

"Probably by the end of April, associations will be able to determine how the cost of fuel is now impacting operations, and then we will adjust our fares accordingly."

Hermanus added that local taxi associations will ultimately set their own fares.

"These vary depending on what routes those associations operate because sometimes within one association, the prices might be different depending on the distances from one point to the other on the network of routes that association might be operating."
