JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has raised concern over a recent fatal shooting between a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) member and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Dobsonville, Soweto.
It's alleged that a SAPS officer shot dead a member of the metro police during a dispute with a reckless driver who is believed to be the JMPD officer's son.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s preliminary investigations suggest the metro police member shot at the police and they retaliated, leaving her with fatal wounds.
In a statement, the DA's Michael Sun says the party will make inquiries to gather more information about the events that led to the shooting.
"Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family affected by this tragic incident. A thorough investigation must be conducted to uncover the truth. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the City of Johannesburg."
