CAPE TOWN - Two former Cape Town police officers have been sentenced to nine years behind bars for corruption.
Jonathan Plaatjies and Morne Fasser were arrested in August 2014 after the Hawks received information that the pair had sold a case docket to an accused for R40,000.
They were charged with corruption, extortion and defeating the administration of justice.
The matter was finalised in the Bellville Serious Commercial Crimes Court this week after Plaatjies and Fasser were found guilty in October last year.
Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani: "The sentence is a clear-cut message that corruption does not pay and that as police management, we will never tolerate any act of corruption within our ranks, said the provincial head of the Hawks Western Cape, Major-General Mathipa Makgato."
