JOHANNESBURG - Excited fans have described Grammy Award-winning artist Tyla as an inspiration to many young girls in South Africa.

The Water hitmaker landed at the OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday.

She received a spirited welcome from fans, friends, family and government officials from the Department of Arts and Culture.

This marks her return to home soil since she bagged the prestigious award in the United States (US).

The 22-year-old broke into the music industry in July last year and her song has topped the charts in multiple countries, including the US.

She recently released an album titled Tyla. Several fans could not contain their joy at the airport when Tyla walked through the glass doors. 

Loved ones welcomed her with flowers, hugs and tears of joy. 

A Tyla fan said the singer had done well for herself: "I'm loving her new album currently. I'm still going through the songs but my favorite is Art." 

In a brief engagement with the media, Tyla thanked everyone who welcomed her back home.

METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS 2024

For the Metro FM Music Awards 2024, Tyla is leading the pack with six nominations for Water.

She is nominated in the following categories: Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Music Video, Best Viral Challenge and Artist of the Year.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Mbombela Stadium, in Mpumalanga, on 27 April 2024 and will be broadcast live on SABC 1.

The songstress was born Tyla Seethal, in Edenvale, Johannesburg, and is the middle child with four other siblings.
