IFP takes 3 wards from ANC in landslide by-election victory
The IFP took votes from the ANC and the EFF, and is now the largest party in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.

The IFP took three wards from the ANC in recent KZN by-elections, reinforcing opinion polls showing the ruling party losing its grip on the province.

Four by-elections were held in KwaZulu-Natal, though Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party was not on the ballots.
Sussman says the Newcastle results are significant because the IFP won so easily.

Sussman expects that, when MK comes into the mix, it could sway support away from the ANC even further.
