CAPE TOWN - Western Cape MEC for Community Safety Reagen Allen says a police constable had to be taken to hospital after she was pelted with stones outside the Vredenburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

This after an angry crowd tried to force their way into the court, where missing six-year-old Joshlin Smith’s mother, Kelly Smith and three other suspects appeared.

Police used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd but no arrests were made.

However, Allen said an investigation to identify the perpetrators was underway.

“We condemn that… I can already confirm a conversation with the provincial commissioner that we will be analysing the video footage to ensure that whoever were throwing stones will ultimately be held accountable.”

Meanwhile, the court case has been postponed until 13 May for further investigation.
