JOHANNESBURG - With a few hours left until registration for the 2024 national and provincial elections closes the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is urging citizens who haven't registered to use this time to do so.
Registration will officially close at midnight following the announcement of the election date by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
At least 14 million people have still not registered to vote with the voters roll currently sitting at 27.6 million.
The IEC is calling on South Africans who wish to make their mark at the polls on the 29 May to register to vote before midnight.
While IEC offices in the country closed at 5pm on Friday, the IEC said residents could still use the online portal to register.

To get young people to register for the upcoming elections, the commission has recorded over four million new registrations from people aged between 20 and 29.
During its last national registration drive held earlier this month, 77% of the new registrations were eligible voters under the age of 29.
After the clock strikes midnight, no new applications will be accepted by the commission.
