DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal says it is high time police start looking for masterminds of political killings instead of just arresting hitmen.
This comes after the murder of a party councillor belonging to the Nongoma Local Municipality.
Councillor Ndukwenhle Duma was shot and killed on Wednesday in Mtubatuba, in the north of the province.
Four children were caught in the crossfire, and one died while the three others sustained injuries.
The IFP has expressed concern over the killing of its councillors after the gunning down of Duma.
The party’s provincial chairperson Thami Ntuli said the party recently buried one of its members, adding that Duma’s killing has intensified their worries.
Police need to ensure that they have units that will focus on arresting suspects instead of hitmen, added Ntuli.
The party is yet to establish whether the killing of Duma was politically motivated.
Police are probing two murder cases and two attempted murder cases.
