JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Transport MMC Kenny Kunene attributed the issues plaguing the Rea Vaya bus service and PioTrans to corrupt people.
Kunene was at the Rea Vaya depot in Soweto, addressing issues related to the embattled bus line after weeks of controversy and the halting of services, which affected Johannesburg commuters.
The MMC presented findings and recommendations to some of the issues alongside the company's business rescue practitioner, Mahier Tayob.
MMC Kunene was in tears at Thursday morning’s relaunch as he recounted the events leading up to the moment.
Kunene explained how the bus line was plagued by corruption from the ground up, including mechanics and the former CEO.
“My message to you is, run. I will also be watching the BRP. I trust him, I trust it, but even trust must be guarded.”
Kunene assured shareholders that he would rid PioTrans of corruption, which includes Tayob, should he be embroiled in acts of corruption.
