JOHANNESBURG - In an effort to root out corruption at state institutions, Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, said that lifestyle audits should be compulsory for government officials.
Maimane was speaking during the party’s election campaign at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday.

He has assured South Africans that a BOSA-led government would free state-owned entities from corruption within its first 100 days in public office.
Maimane said the government needed to be proactive in fighting corruption in state institutions.
"My call today is that we create an executive ethics ombudsman that will sit in the office of the president, that will ensure that a proper lifestyle audit is done. But the prevention of corruption is better than the cure of corruption."
He said it was concerning that unethical practices continued to thrive in government, as he partially attributed this to cadre deployment.
"My lifelong dream is that ultimately even the president of the republic is directly elected by the people because then they would be accountable to the people of this country."
Maimane insists the incumbent government has no political will to address corruption at state institutions.
