CAPE TOWN - Cape Flats Safety Forum chairperson, Abi Isaacs, has called for the deployment of soldiers to stop gang violence in Cape Town.
There's been an increase in gang violence, especially on the Cape Flats in recent months.
On Friday, a 16-year-old grade 11 learner was shot and killed while standing at the gates of her school in Athlone.
She was caught in the crossfire of a gang shootout.
Isaacs said the soldiers could bring stability in gang-infested areas across the metro.
"Yes, we do understand they will only be here for a certain limited time, but let's act. We know that many years ago when the South African National Defence Force was deployed as a force multiplier, there was a reduction in crime."
