JOHANNESBURG - With the country moving closer to its seventh democratic election, some Soweto residents are not convinced that making a mark on the ballot paper will change their lives.
This is what some residents of the Nomzamo informal settlement told UDM Leader Bantu Holomisa, who campaigned in the township on Monday.
Disgruntled community members said that they are yet to benefit from participating in previous elections.
"All we need is to be moved to dignified housing, that’s what I want. Please help us, we just need a place to call home."
One resident who lives in a two-bedroom shack at the settlement pleaded with the UDM to help improve her family’s situation.
She said in 1994, they were made to believe that one day they will be among the South Africans with proper housing.
"Please install electricity for us. We don’t have water either in the community. We want flushing toilets like everyone else."
Holomisa told the community that the ANC is to blame for their current situation.
