CAPE TOWN - In an effort to rid the Cape Flats of unlicensed firearms, police have confiscated three firearms and arrested four suspects in separate incidents.

Three suspects were nabbed in Elsies River on Wednesday, for possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident in Kleinvlei, a 27-year-old man was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and arrested, after allegedly robbing someone at gunpoint.

"Kleinvlei police members were busy with crime combatting operations in Keerom Street at 05:56, when they were stopped by a community member who informed them that she was robbed moments earlier by a known person. While the police members interviewed her, she pointed out the suspect to them," said the police's Joseph Swaartbooi.

Swaartbooi says police also arrested a suspect in Steenberg for possession of crayfish without a valid permit.

"The members approached the address in Squaw Road at around 23:35 and searched the entire premises. Their persistence was rewarded when they confiscated a consignment of crayfish with an estimated street value of R7000,00."
