PRETORIA - Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has expressed frustration over the numerous fires that have engulfed its substations in recent months.

The Mooikloof substation in Pretoria East is the latest to be destroyed by a massive fire - leaving communities without power since Wednesday night.

Speaking during his State of the City address on Thursday morning, Brink said the municipality was investigating matters surrounding the blaze.

He assured residents that security would be beefed up to prevent the vandalism of substations across the capital city.

“I told the city manager and MMC Kgosi that every substation fire must be treated as an extreme exception requiring a full investigation. If someone’s negligent and unlawful conduct led the city to spend millions of rands in repairs, that person must be held to account.”
